Tobia Scarpa for Venini Murano Glass Opachi Vase, 1983

In the 1940s, Venetian-born Carlo Scarpa looked to eastern traditions for his inspiration in creating objects, borrowing some of his forms from East Asian porcelain ware. In the 1960s, his son, Tobia Scarpa, followed his father's cue with the minimal and elegant forms of his monochromatic 'Opachi' series. The minimal and smooth lines of the vase highlight the intrinsic beauty of the glass that allows its color to shine through, and embodies the essence of classical elegance. The renowned hand-blown glassmakers at Venini, have re-editioned this precious object in many colors over the years, including a limited edition color, called Rosso Ancora, with Gucci in 2021.

Showcasing a rounded long neck bottle silhouette in refined beige, the understated elegance of this distinctive objet d'art will highlight a chic contemporary interior, especially when embellished by a single-stemmed flower. This example of the 'Opachi' vase in Straw Yellow was made in 1983, and is signed and dated "Venini Italia 83" on the bottom.  It also still has the original labels present: the official Vetro Artistico Murano and the Venini label. This item was custom made to order in Italy.
