PAUL M. JONES (1919 - 2007): was a well known and influentual figure in the interior design industry. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, and went on to graduate from Ohio State University. After serving in the army during WWII, he became an editor at Family Circle magazine before settling in to a long and successful career in the design industry. In 1958, Paul opened his first studio in a brownstone on East 54th St. in New York City. He quickly became a fashionable and highly reputable resource for custom furniture, lighting, and accessories, assisted by an array of talented manufacturers and a loyal and supportive staff. In 1961, Paul M. Jones, Inc. became one of the very first trade showrooms to occupy the newly opened Decoration & Design building. His pieces were admired for their unique artistry, mastery of metal work, and seamless blending of tradition with modern times. Paul was also esteemed for his kindness and gentle demeanor, and his classic aesthetic and influence over the interior design market is still strongly recognized today.

According to his partner and protégé John Boone, "[Paul's] artistry was built on a foundation of tradition, but his pieces are original, with the DNA of an antique and a dose of modernity. Paul was that rare bird who flew high, without ego or affectation. He was on a first name basis with Billy, Mario, Sister, and Mark, but he never advertised that or anything else. If you were in the know, you knew him. It all began in 1958. He dove head-first into an era of cocktails and canapés, étagères, guéridons, and daybeds and rose to the top. But his sensibility, evident in the chocolate brown lacquer walls and cork tile floors in his never-changing showroom, was not subject to trends."
